Ayurveda Cooking For Beginners is Here!

I am excited, and still a little incredulous, that my book Ayurveda Cooking For Beginners is here! You can get it now: http://bit.ly/AyurvedaCookingForBeginners

The book has 108 recipes for every season, tips to adjust recipes to each dosha, a 5-step guide to Ayurvedic eating, 4 seasonal 7-day meal plans, an overview of Ayurveda principles, and graphs and quizzes to help you learn more about yourself, Ayurvedically speaking.

It includes some of your favorites, like Golden Milk.

But it’s primarily all original recipes, mostly with 5 ingredients or less, and 4 hand-crafted, seasonal spice blends to make cooking easy. With gorgeous images from food photographer Hélène Dujardin, whose own blog Tartelette was visual inspiration for mine.

I give my utmost respect to everyone who has done this before. It’s a lot of effort – working up recipes, testing recipes, retesting recipes, writing recipes, and then trying to write about the whys and wherefores, to introduce and try to make Ayurveda sound simple, when in truth, it is a very complex science. It is daunting too, because I have the deepest, greatest, most holy respect for my teachers and all who teach Ayurveda and share these essential truths in their clinical practice. But above all, it really has been an immense joy. To be so deeply immersed in Ayurveda all day, every day made them heavenly days.

It is a great blessing, and there is no way I would have, could have, ever done this on my own. Clara Song Lee was the editor who brought this to life with her detailed outline and brilliant guidance from start to finish. Along the way there were development editors, proofing editors, readers, designers, photographers, so many cooks in the pot – and there was my friend Sally who opened up her time, gathered up the ingredients and tested recipes once, twice, three times when I was travelling and didn’t have access and everything was due! The Yam Fries and Pumpkin Nut Bread are delicious, really divine, thanks to her input and inspiration.

As I think you know, I believe Ayurveda is not only the greatest, safest, most loving science of health and healing, but that it truly teaches us the art of living – to be an artist in our relationships, our work, and in our kitchens. It is my intention with this book that more people will learn about Ayurveda and what it can do for them, and hopefully, step-by-step, incorporate this easy, delicious, delightful way of living into their lives, starting by what goes into your meals and what you make with your own two hands.

Stay tuned, as I will be posting excerpts with recipes this month, and please let me know what you think. I will pick a name (randomly of course) from a comment below and get a book off to you.

Meanwhile you can get a copy here now. You might know someone who could really use a book like this, and together we can help more people understand that real food heals and delights – and that healthy eating can be sacred, sumptuous, divine.

Thank you for your support!

  10. Thank you for this! I have been wanting to reincorporate Ayurveda into mine and my family’s life but have found it a bit overwhelming to sort through, learn and relearn so much information these past several months. Such a wonderful surprise to find this post in my inbox this morning! All the best,
    Nicole.

    • I hope this book makes it easy to reincorporate and balance for a family. I’ve tried to emphasize sattva over dosha as the key to making healthy Ayurvedic meals for a group (or anyone really!), and I think that understanding this will make Ayurvedic Cooking easier. Hope so! Will look forward to your feedback. Thanks Nicole.
