Apples are great for a cleanse. With so much pectin, they help clean out the intestinal tract, while fortifying your body with phytonutrients, and a cooling action that reduces any lingering Pitta from the heat of the summer.
If you are joining us for the Seasonal Cleanse, or whenever you are seeking a colon cleanse, it is great to keep some apple sauce on hand, in case you find you need a snack or to mix in with your, need I say non-dairy?, breakfast.
For detoxification we want to increase Agni, digestive fire, and optimize elimination. We also want ease of digestion ~ to give the gut a bit of a rest, so it can repair. With Apple Sauce, because the apple is chopped and heated (in other words, slightly pre-digested), it maintains its strengthening nutrients without straining digestion. And it tastes great, so you never feel deprived.
It takes 5 minutes to make. Here is what I do:
HEALING APPLE SAUCE
1 serving
Ingredients
1/4 teaspoon ghee
cinnamon, to taste
Optional: cardamom, nutmeg to taste
1 apple
1/4 cup water
Method
Melt ghee. Add cinnamon, and optionally nutmeg, cardamom or your favorite spice. Chop one apple and stir it in with the ghee. Add water. Bring to a light simmer. Turn the heat to low and cover for 5 minutes. Mash with a Potato masher or, once it is cooled, mix in the blender for a smoother consistency. Serve warm.
Hope you enjoy it.
Big love!
This recipe sounds easy and delicious! I like the idea of eating it warm. I was thinking I could add your Rejuvenating Jam (maybe a small teaspoon) for extra flavor, or if I want my sauce to look pretty I could swirl it in and create a design. 🙂
That sounds delicious, and pretty! Send a photo please. I’d love to see your artistic interpretation.
Thanks, Dani.
The recipe was easy and delicious! I make it every other day!
Thanks, Maria! We love when easy and delicious are companions, don’t we?
